  6. Underground life imposed certain        
  7. psychological pressures on the          
  8. inhabitants, despite the increased      
  9. health of the ecosphere topside. The    
  10. Intercorp Council via Central Processing
  11. instituted a series of modifications to 
  12. the social experiment, including the    
  13. installation of commons for recreation, 
  14. sports, and universal martial arts      
  15. training. The commons were large,       
  16. centrally located chambers providing    
  17. playing surfaces for a number of games  
  18. from ancient football and baseball to   
  19. sphereplay and drogues. Areas were set  
  20. aside for martial arts, which included  
  21. hand-to-hand combat training, neurophage
  22. weapon growth and use, t'ai ch'i,       
  23. aikido, karate, kali, kung fu and       
  24. various adaptations, blends and         
  25. developments. Glimpses of Ant martial   
  26. art techniques surfaced from time to    
  27. time and were incorporated into the     
  28. training, some form of which was        
  29. compulsory for everyone until the age of
  30. eighteen. Individual aggression         
  31. continues to be a problem, but such     
  32. training, and the introduction of       
  33. vendetta and duelling with NP weapons   
  34. provided adequate outlets. See Geography
